Influence of superelastic vibrational collisions on the relaxation of the electron energy distribution function in N2 post discharge regimes

چکیده
2014 The relaxation of the electron energy distribution function (edf) in N2 post discharge regime has been studied by solving the Boltzmann equation without the term due to the electric field. The results have been obtained both in the presence and in the absence of superelastic vibrational collisions. In the first case the electron energy distribution function relaxes toward nearly time independent values rich in electrons in the energy range 2-4 eV, while in the absence of superelastic vibrational collisions edf presents a hole in this energy range. This behaviour is reflected on the rate coefficients of the different processes. In particular, in the presence of superelastic vibrational collisions, the rate coefficients of the vibrational excitation and of the excitation of the metastable nitrogen atoms N(2P, 2D) can conserve high values also in the post discharge regime. متن کاملRelaxation of the electron energy distribution function in the afterglow of a N2 microwave discharge including space-charge field effects.
The relaxation of the electron energy distribution function (EEDF) in the post-discharge of an omega/(2pi)=2.45 GHz microwave discharge in N2 has been investigated by solving the time-dependent Boltzmann equation, including a term taking into account electron losses by diffusion under the presence of a space-charge field. It is shown that although the high-energy tail of the EEDF is rapidly dep...
متن کاملA parametric Boltzmann equation analysis of CO2 dissociation in cold plasmas and afterglows
CO2 dissociation has been studied in discharge and post discharge conditions by comparing direct electron impact dissociation rates with those rates obtained by considering a pure vibrational dissociation mechanism in which excitation of vibrational modes of CO2 is taken into account. Results have been obtained by solving a Boltzmann equation including elastic, inelastic, superelastic and elect...
متن کاملEnergy Balance and Gas Thermalization in a High Power Microwave Discharge in Mixtures
The dynamics of fast gas heating in a high power microwave discharge in air, is investigated in the framework of FDTD simulations of the Maxwell equations coupled with the fluid simulations of the plasma. It is shown that, an ultra-fast gas heating of the order of several 100 Kelvins occurs in less than 100 ns. The main role in the heating is played by the electron impact dissociation of , diss...
متن کاملNumerical Modeling of Non-equilibrium Plasma Discharge of Hydrogenated Silicon Nitride (SiH4/NH3/H2)
In this work, we model a radiofrequency discharge of hydrogenated silicon nitride in a capacitive coupled plasma reactor using Maxwellian and non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution function. The purpose is to investigate whether there is a real advantage and a significant contribution using non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution function rather than Maxwellian one for determining the ...
